Washer Won't Drain? What to Check
A washer that stops full of water is usually protecting itself from a blocked drain path, not suffering a major failure. The pump filter, the drain hose and the house standpipe clog far more often than pumps die. Work the checks below in order before you assume an expensive fault, and bail the tub only if you are comfortable doing it.

The pump filter catches more than lint
Most front-load washers hide a small pump filter behind a lower front panel. It catches coins, hairpins, buttons and sock fragments, and when it packs full the washer cannot drain and may flash a drain error. With the power off and towels ready, because trapped water will come out, open the filter slowly and clear it. Finding the item that caused the blockage, a coin is the classic, tells you the pump itself may be perfectly healthy.
Top-load washers usually have no owner filter, so a no-drain there points sooner at the hose, the pump or a garment caught between the tubs. Our washing machine repair page covers how we separate those on a visit.

Follow the water out of the house side too
The drain hose can kink when the washer gets pushed back, and the standpipe it drains into can clog with lint and detergent sludge over years, especially in older McDaniel Estates and Eagleville homes. If the washer drains into a sink or pipe that also runs slowly, the house drain is part of the problem and a plumber, not an appliance part, is the fix. We will say so honestly when we find it.
Check also that the hose height matches the manual. A hose pushed too far down a standpipe can siphon water out mid-cycle, which looks like a fill fault instead.

Signs the pump itself has failed
If the path is clear and the pump hums without moving water, or is silent while the control insists it should be running, the pump motor or its power supply has likely failed. Pumps are replaceable parts on most models, and the repair is a normal one. Call our laundry appliance repair team with the model number and the error code if one showed, and photograph the code before unplugging clears it.
